Different Colored Passport (A Privileged Colored Passport)

IMG_0690.jpg

White, male, born in the USA

I have to be honest and say

I have privilege in every way

The truth is:

Since I was a little kid

The life I’ve been able to live

Is one of undeniable privilege

 You see

even If I don’t have money

Automatic opportunities

Are given to me for free

Just because of my nationality

I care that compare

To other countries and friends

My traveling options never end

Just because I’m born where I am

I have instant access to a world

of countries near, far and wide

While so much of the world

immediately gets their visas denied

Even the process to apply

is too impossible to try

My different colored passport

is like a 5star resort

The magic power of a piece of paper

Makes travel much cheaper, easier, and safer

I live in a world

Full of Visa-on-arrival or no Visa needed options:

No proof of anything is needed:

No bookings, no return flight, no hotel reservations, no bank statements, no interviews, no insurance, no invitation letters, no visa application fee, no itinerary, no plans no problems

All I have to do is not miss my flight.

Because when my passport is red, white,

and blue It doesn’t matter who

I am, what I’ve done, or what I want to do

Even if I have a hypocritical point of view

My passport gets stamped right through

without any stressing or second guessing

There’s no question this is a privileged blessing

The model for how we live

It’s all documented

My words are worth more than yours

because my passport is

Let’s face it the world is racist

and xenophobic in so many places

Our passportphobia

Means we will never have a utopia

The reality is that we can never be free

when people are treated so differently

I don’t agree with this lack of reciprocity

It isn’t fine

That I can stay in your country

but you can’t come to mine

for any amount of time

this unfair design

is one of the world’s unspoken crimes

If truth be told, I’m ashamed

For most of my life I used to complain

When I had to fill out forms and write my name

You see I didn’t even realize the degree of this luxury

I was ignorant and didn’t have a clue

what my different colored passport entitled me to

If I’m candid

I completely took this life advantage for granted

But now it’s time to acknowledge

The privilege of how I’m able to live

and become a bridge that gives

Other people an enhanced chance

To change their traveling circumstance

The question I’m left with

Is how do I use this born gift?

To answer people’s wish

And help them become tourists?
