A Prayer for Forgiveness

May I forgive

May I forgive so that I can fully live

May I forgive so I can be whole and find completion

May I recognize everyone’s humanness and remember that we all make mistakes

May I know and remember that all of us are so much more than our biggest mistakes

May I use forgiveness to escape a perpetuating circle of hate

May I use forgiveness to create a different world and pattern of life.

May I use forgiveness to change the meaning and ending of the story.

May I forgive and not let an unhappy ending overshadow a happy past.

May I forgive so that I am no longer defined by what happened

May I forgive because I have suffered enough

May I forgive because I am ready to move on

May I apply the healing balm of forgiveness to the wounds that have consumed me

May I forgive so that I no longer see my wounds when I look into the mirror

May I forgive so I don’t feed the hungry ghosts of my interior

May my body forgive so that it may heal from all the harm it has endured

May I grow by letting go of the pain that clings to me and that I firmly hold on to with a self-hate that I somehow mistake for an old friend

May I no longer feel loyal to my scars and to what they represent

May I no longer identify myself with them

As them

May I no longer feel guilty or helpless

May I forgive so that I can change out of my wardrobe of regret

May I change my outfit and outlook and actively seek and choose forgiveness

May I forgive and choose to remember the good times over the bad ones

May I forgive knowing that soft power is more powerful than hard power

May I forgive so that I can give people their humanity back

May I forgive so I can crack through the wall of anger and pain that I’ve built and trapped others and myself in

May I forgive so that I give birth to new life

May I be for giving

May I forgive myself

May I free myself from blame and shame

May I show myself the same compassion I show others

May I forgive myself for making mistakes

May I forgive myself for not having parts of my life turn out how I thought they would or how they were supposed to.

May I invite the grace of mercy and forgiveness into my life.

May I use forgiveness as an antidote for my fear

May I forgive so I can finally find the healing peace that lives within that release

May I claim the power and the life that lives in forgiveness

May I forgive so that I may fully live.
