Heartbeats & Footprints Pilgrimages
Uganda - The Fullness of Life
Uganda and M-LISADA (Music Life Skills and Destitution Alleviation) an organization that works with vulnerable (orphans, abandoned and abused children, street children, HIV+ children, and children that live in extreme poverty) children are currently what I consider to be my spiritual home and teacher. It is in Uganda and at M-LISADA that I am constantly taught the most powerful teachings about life.
It is in Uganda, amidst the music, dancing, laughter, and smiles of M-LISADA, the mesmerizing beauty of nature, the grace of animals on a safari, the poorness of poverty, and the harsh reality of life in the slums of Katwe that I most experience the fullness of life in its many different forms.
I am vice president on the advisory board of M-LISADA. I spent 15 days walking 210 miles from Gulu to Kampala to raise money to build a school especially designed for vulnerable children. I have marched with M-LISADA’s brass band advocating for street children and children’s rights. I have regularly visited Kampiringsa Uganda’s only juvenile detention and rehabilitation center, and have been part of a reusable sanitary pad project on the remote Sesse Islands. Uganda is a country that has taught me more about the fullness of life than any other place that I have been.
The Next Heartbeats & Footprints Pilgrimage to Uganda will be March 30th to April 10th 2023.
